MAX GEHLHAAR OF PATTERSON PASSES

Came to Iowa as Immigrant From Germany More Than 50 Years Ago

Max Gehlhaar, well known Patterson and Madison county resident, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines Tuesday night, July 15th. Mr. Gehlhaar who was 77 years of age, had been in the hospital for the past three weeks and had been critically ill the past week.

Mr. Gehlhaar was born in Germany, but came to Iowa with some of the members of his family when he was 21 years of age. They located on a farm near Garden Grove and later he and his wife moved to a farm near Patterson, and they had resided in that community since that time. His wife died in April 1937.

The deceased had always taken an active interest in the affairs of his community, and served as secretary to the Patterson school board for many years.

He is survived by one brother, George, of Garden Grove, and a brother in Germany, whom he had not heard from for the past 18 months.

The Rev. J. H. Machian will conduct his funeral services at the Methodist church in Patterson, Thursday, July 17, at 3:30 o'clock.
