FORMER RESIDENT KILLED IN ACTION

Pvt. Everett Brafford Died In Battle of Guam on August 8

Pvt. Everett W. Brafford of the U. S. Army, a former resident of Winterset, was killed in action in the battle of Guam on Aug. 8, according to a telegram received here Tuesday by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hines.

Private Brafford had left California for overseas service early in April. His wife, who is a sister of Mrs. Carl Hines, had remained in California after he went overseas.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Brafford are well known in Winterset. They made their home here for about a year back in 1932 and in 1938 they returned here to live for several months. They were living in Des Moines when he entered the service.
