CLARENCE ELY DIED IN DENVER SUNDAY

Former Winterset Druggist Succumbs Suddenly to Heart Attack

Clarence S. Ely, former Winterset druggist and well known in this community, died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday at Denver, Colo., where he had lived the past 13 years. He was 53 years of age. His death occurred just one day prior to that of his mother, Mrs. Henry S. Ely, who died in Winterset the following day.

Mr. Ely was born in Winterset and spent most of his life here. He was the son of Henry and Nellie Clark Ely and was born Aug. 5, 1890. He graduated from the Winterset high school and the Babcock Pharmacy Institute in Des Moines.

He was a veteran of World War I, having served overseas in France with a medical detachment of the American Expeditionary force. After the war he engaged in drug business in Winterset, operating a store on the north side of the square until about 1930. As his health was failing at that time, he then moved to Denver, where he also operated a drug store.

He was married at Stuart on Aug. 23, 1917 to Miss Ruth Montgomery of that community. They were the parents of one child, a daughter, Joan.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his father, H. S. Ely of Winterset; a brother, Ralph Ely of Creston; and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Flood of Park City, Mont., and Blanche Ely of Winterset.

Funeral services and burial were held Wednesday in Denver.
