Wednesday, August 6, 1941MACKSBURG MAN KILLED IN CRASH
Rex Griswold of Macksburg, 25-year-old truck driver, died at the hospital in Chariton Wednesday as a result of injuries sustained when a coal truck he was driving crashed into a concrete underpass abuttment along highway No. 34. He was driving a truck owned by Ralph Eyerly.
Griswold was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Griswold of Macksburg. In addition to his parents, he leaves four brothers and three sisters. Funeral time had not been set definitely Wednesday, pending word from one of the brothers, Ralph, in California.

Funeral services for Rex Griswold were held from the Macksburg Methodist church Saturday, Aug. 9, 1941, at two o'clock, in charge of the Rev. B. R. Westman. Music was furnished by Jay Steele, Jay Thompson, Wayne Crow and James Steele, accompanied by Miss Vernie Busch. Pallbearers were Gail McKinney, Ralph Kirkland, Marion Stewart, Glenn Porter, Rex Haymond and Glen Holiday. Interment was made in the Kivett cemetery in charge of the Watts funeral home.
Rex Eugene Griswold, son of Orville and Mabel Griswold, was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Macksburg and departed this life in the Chariton hospital, Aug. 6, 1941, at the age of 24 years, 8 months, and 2 days.
His entire life had been spent in Macksburg. He graduated from the Macksburg high school in 1936, and was an active member on the basketball team.
He leaves a beautiful memory of his going with the thought of his making peace with His Lord in those last hours.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Darwin.
He leaves to mourn his departure his father and mother, four brothers and three sisters: Leonard of Winterset, Clarence of Creston, Carl of Arispie, Ralph of Los Angeles, Cal., Nellie Walters of Diagonal, Nina McKinzie, and Pearl Warnook of Macksburg; nieces and nephews and other relatives, and a host of friends.
