George C. Pace, aged Madison county resident, died last Tuesday, Aug. 12th at the age of 95 years. Mr. Pace was the son of Thomas and Nancy Pace, and was born in Pickaway county, Ohio. He came with his parents to Decatur county at the age of nine years, and when a young man he came to this county, where he and his father ran the Backbone mill. They later moved to Winterset and Mr. Pace had resided in or near this place since then.
Mr. Pace was married to Tresha Emily Moore on Sept. 21, 1873, and they were the parents of eight children. Mrs. Pace and four of their children have preceded him in death. He is survived by four children: Mrs. Frank Harrison of near Patterson, Robert B., Byron and Chesela Pace, all of Winterset; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the Anderson home for funerals, Thursday, Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Leland Brown officiating, and burial was made in the Hooten cemetery in Lincoln township.

George C. Pace, one of Madison county’s oldest residents, died at his home in the east part of Winterset, Tuesday of last week. He was 95 years of age and had been in failing health for quite some time.
George Cornelius Pace was the son of Thomas and Nancy Pace and was born December 15, 1845 in Pickaway county, Ohio. He came with his parents at the age of 9 years, to Decatur County, Iowa, and when a young man he came to Madison county where he and his father ran the Backbone Mill, moving from there to Winterset. Since that time is resided in and near Winterset.
He was united in marriage to Tresha Emily Moore, Sept. 21, 1873 and to this union were born eight children; for children and his wife preceding him in death.
He leaves to mourn his death for children, Mrs. Frank Harrison of near Patterson; Robert B., Byron and Chesla Pace all of Winterset; ten grandchildren, one niece, four nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Anderson funeral home at three o’clock Thursday afternoon, Aug. 14. Rev. Leland Brown officiated and burial was made in the Hooten cemetery.
