ST. CHARLES NATIVE DIES IN DES MOINES

Charles R. Phipps, a native of the St. Charles community, died Tuesday, March 16, at Des Moines where he had been living since 1945. He was 82 years of age.

Mr. Phipps was born in Madison county April 27, 1872 but moved to Decatur with his parents when he was 13 years of age. He farmed in that community until 1945 when he and his wife moved to Des Moines.

He is survived by a son, the Rev. Clair Phipps of Des Moines; five daughters, 23 grandchildren; and two brothers, James Phipps of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Ivor Phipps of Washington.

Funeral services were held last Thursday from the Stewart Funeral home in Leon with burial in the Decatur cemetery.
