Peru Resident Dies March 30

Mrs. Minnie Hoover, a life long resident of Madison county, died Tuesday March 30, at her home in Peru. She was 79 years of age.

Mrs. Hoover was the former Minnie Florence Simmons, daughter of Jacob and Jennie Simmons. She was born in Madison county Jan. 30, 1875.

She was married to Lewis Hoover on April 30, 1899. They were parents of nine children. Her husband and three of the children preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Peru Methodist church.

Surviving are six children; Mrs. Jessie McDonald and Everett and Ernest Hoover of Scranton; Mrs. Esther Hollingsworth of Des Moines; Mrs. Wilma Strawn of Martensdale; and Vera at home. She also leaves 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Arie Lilley of Peru; and two half-brothers, Alvin Ogburn of Crescent City, Calif.; and Harley Ogburn of Marshall, Texas.

Peru Happenings

Funeral services were held at the Peru Methodist church Friday, April 2nd, for Mrs. Minnie Hoover who passed away at her home in Peru Tuesday evening, March 30, at the age of 79 years. She had been ill for several weeks with virus pneumonia and complications. Rev. Ray Harness of the Peru church conducted the services, assisted by the Rev. Earl Travis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery. Mrs. Hoover, who had spent her life in this community, is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Jessie McDonald of Scranton, Mrs. Esther Hollingsworth of Des Moines, Mrs. Wilma Strawn of Martensdale and Vera Hoover of Peru, also two sons, Everett Hoover and Ernest Hoover both of Scranton, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Arie Lalley of Peru, and two brothers, Alvin Ogburn of California, and Harley Ogburn of Texas also survive.
