DWIGHT HESS DIES IN BURNING HOME

Cecil Dwight Hess, aged 51, former Madison county resident, died last Thursday morning, Sept. 16 in a fire which destroyed his home at 1916 East 25th street in Des Moines. He was a son of the late Charles R. Hess and wife and was born in Shawnee, Okla., March 12, 1903, but moved here with his parents when he was small; he was educated in the Winterset schools and was known here as Dwight Hess.

He has resided in Des Moines for the past 33 years, and was an auto mechanic. He served in the U. S. airforce in World War ll from 1942 to 1945.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Madge Hess, who was out of town at the time of the fire and his mother, Mrs. Nellie Hess of Puyallup, Wash. He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. James H. Roper of Puyallup and Mrs. William T. Cavanaugh of Bellevue, Wash., and four aunts and four uncles, three of whom reside in this county, Mrs. Pearl Welch, W. D. Hess and O. E. Hess, all of Winterset.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines and burial was made in the Masonic cemetery there.
