EDWARD HESS BURIED FRIDAY

Elm Grove Resident Died on Sept. 29 at Age of 86 Years

Edward Hess, a well known resident of the Elm Grove community, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines after an extended illness. He was 86 years of age.

Mr. Hess was born in Mahaska county on Oct. 14, 1868, a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Hess. He had spent the last 50 years of his life on the same farm at Elm Grove.

He was married Feb. 11, 1894 to Jettie A. Leanhart, who survives him. He also leaves four daughters, Mrs. Cassie Ogburn of West Des Moines, Mrs. Mabel Clarke of Truro, Mrs. Myrtle Oglesbee and Mrs. Cleta Oglesbee, both of Winterset; a son, Arnold Hess of Afton; 36 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and three brothers.

Funeral services were held Friday from the St. Charles Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Weed and the Rev. Eldon Haworth. Burial was made in King cemetery.
