Well-Known Jackson Township Farmer Succumbs After Long Illness

Fred C. Nierman, Jackson township farmer, died at the Hines Veteran's hospital near Chicago, Ill., Saturday, May 17th, after an extended illness. Mr. Nierman, who was 45 years of age, May 15th, had been in failing health for the past ten years with arthritis and complications.

Mr. Nierman was the son of Herman and Chrilla Wicks Nierman. His father died a number of years ago and his mother passed away in 1939. For a number of years he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wicks.

Mr. Nierman was a World war veteran. Following the war he was married to Miss Thena Scott of Dexter, and they made their home in Jackson township.

He is survived by his wife and their four children: Roxana, Roberta, Ruth and Charles. He also leaves one brother, Henry Nierman of Baltimore, Maryland, and two sisters, Mr. O. H. Murdock of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Elsie Drace of Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Funeral services for Mr. Nierman were held at the Earlham Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Fred Nierman, 45 Died Saturday

Funeral services were held at the Earlham Church of Christ, Tuesday, May 20 for Fred Nierman, who died Saturday. Mr. Nierman had been in poor health for a number of years. At the time of his death he was receiving treatment at the Hines Veterans' hospital at Chicago.

Rev. Hastie, a former pastor of the Early Chapel church, conducted the services assisted by Rev. Shepard. The Earlham American Legion post rendered the military honors and firing salute. Neighbors acted as pall bearers. Burial was made at the Earlham cemetery.

OBITUARY

Fred C. Nierman, son of Herman and Chrilla Nierman, was born near Wanette, Oklahoma, February 24, 1896 and passed to his Eternal home in a hospital in Chicago, May 17th, 1941, age 45 years, two months and 21 days.

At the age of eleven years he moved with his parents to Lockwood, Missouri, where he received his elementary and high school education.

Fred came to Iowa when he was twenty-one years of age to make his home with and work for his uncle Charlie Wicks.

On March 2nd, 1924 he was united in marriage to Parthena Scott. Four children were born to this union, Roxanna, Roberta, Ruth and Charles. Mr. and Mrs. Nierman have lived in the Early Chapel neighborhood ever since they were married and are held in the highest esteem by all.

He led an active farmer's life until he was afflicted in January 1931. In spite of his affliction he continued to have a great interest in his farm work.

He was baptized in the Christian Church in Lockwood, Missouri, when he was sixteen years old and his membership was transferred to the church in Early Chapel.

He served his country in the First World War and was a Legionnaire. He was a most patient sufferer. Kind and considerate to his devoted wife and children. His one thought was for them and their future welfare. He leaves besides his wife and family, his sister, Mrs. Roxie Murdock of Council Bluffs, and a brother Henry Nierman of Baltimore, Maryland, and a half sister, Mrs. Earnest Drace of Tabler, Oklahoma, and numerous friends.
