Thursday, May 28, 1936Mrs. Keneim Costa Dies
Mrs. Keneim Costa, former Winterset resident, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Monday morning, May 25, about four o'clock, at the age of 49 years. Mrs. Costa had been in poor health for several months but her condition did not become serious until last Saturday morning when she was taken to the hospital for treatment for a nervous breakdown. Heart trouble developed on Sunday and she died during the night.
Mrs. Costa, who was the former Fern Catterlin, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Catterlin and was born in Winterset, June 2, 1886. She was graduated from the Winterset high school and then later received her degree in music at Simpson college at Indianola. She gave piano lessons, here and in Lorimor, for a number of years. She was married to Mr. Costa, February 19, 1921 and they have since made their home in Des Moines.
Mrs. Costa was a member of the local chapter of Eastern Star and continued with her work in the organization on Des Moines. She also was active in the Union Park Methodist church of which she was a member, and the Cattail school parent teacher organization.
Mrs. Costa is survived by her husband and their ten year old daughter, Laura Gene of Des Moines; her mother, Mrs. Idlewild Catterlin of Winterset and two sisters; Mrs. J. C. Thompson of Macksburg and Mrs. Daisy Barnett of Whittier, California.
The Rev. J. Hamilton Dawson, pastor of the Unity Lutheran church will conduct her funeral services which are to be held at the Hamilton funeral home in Des Moines at 11 o'clock this morning. He is to be assisted by the Rev. Mr. Swan of the Union Park Methodist church. The remains will then be held at the Catterlin home on West Jefferson street at three o'clock, and burial is to be in the local cemetery.
Mrs. Idlewild Catterlin who had been seriously ill at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines and at the home of her daughter, and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Costa, was brought home last Saturday and is being cared for by Mrs. Maude Huston.
