Death of Gregory Niblo

Thomas Gregory Niblo, widely-known Winterset resident who spent his active life as a farmer in Madison county, died suddenly at his home here Sunday morning. He was 68 years of age.

While not in good health, Mr. Niblo was able to attend to his business and was down town Saturday evening. His brother John, was his house guest and after breakfast Sunday moring went upstairs and a heart attack caused his death about nine o'clock.

Mr. Niblo was the son of Robert and Gertrude A. Backus Niblo and was born in Jones county on March 22, 1868. In 1875 when he was seven years old, he came with his parents to Madison county. They settled in Jackson township where he grew to manhood and this county has since been his home.

He was married to Lillie B. Bruce on December 27, 1892. They made their home in Jackson township until 1922 when his health failed. They then moved to Winterset in their house on West Jefferson that has since been their home.

In 1893, shortly after his marriage he united with the Methodist church at West Star, remaining a member there until his removal to Winterset in 1922, when he transferred his membership to the local Methodist church.

Mr. Niblo is survived by his widow; two sisters; Mrs. Jessie Baker of Winterset and Mrs. Gertrude Rumford of Ottawa, Kansas; and two brothers, R. S. Niblo of Winterset and John L. Niblo of Huron, South Dakota. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Methodist church here in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M. R. Talley. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred and Dale Niblo, Alvin Alexander, Earl and Cash Crawford.
