Mrs. Leah McDonald Dies

Four years of failing health culminated in the death last Saturday of Mrs. Leah McDonald a resident of Madison county since 1868. She was 91 years of age. Death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Kuntz, who had been caring for her for the past eight weeks. (d. 10-3-1936)

Mrs. McDonald was the former Leah Catherine Ruth, and was born in Marshall county, West Virginia near Moundsville, on September 7, 1845.She was the daughter of James and Eleanor Ruth. She moved with her parents to Guernsey county, Ohio and they later came to Madison county in 1868.

She was married to Robert F. McDonald on February 14, 1871. He died in 1906. They were the parents of five children; Harriett Ann Laizure, who died in 1917; James T. McDonald of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Charles W. Thomas who died in 1929; Mrs. Ethel Kuntz of Winterset; and Joseph A. McDonald of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota.

Mrs. McDonald had been a member of the Baptist church for more than 40 years.

Surviving relatives are; three brothers, John and Joe Ruth of Winterset and Alec Ruth of Minot, North Dakota; the three children; and 12 grandchildren, Robert, Loren and Burnell Laizure, Lucien and Dean McDonald, Esther and Charles McDonald, Eathel Eyerly, Zoe McDonald, Katherine Sawyers, Blanche Easter and Eunice Hann.

Funeral services were at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was in the McDonald cemetery.
