Earlham, Iowa
February 1940

Clarence N., son of Willis K. and Nora Craven, was born at Earlham, Iowa, on October 25, 1914. After a pastorate of two years at Linden, Iowa, the family moved to Minnesota in 1918 where they resided for four years.

In 1922 the family moved to Kansas where Clarence spent his boyhood. He attended the public schools and was graduated from Friends Haviland Academy at Haviland, Kansas in 1932. He was converted at the age of eight years but became more firmly established in his love for the Master during his high school days, living a sincere, earnest Christian life, always zealous for the spiritual welfare of his schoolmates and other friends.

In 1932 the family returned to Iowa where Clarence continued his education. He attended John Fletcher College in 1934-35. In the fall of 1935 he entered Wm. Penn College, at Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he was graduated in 1938.

On August 25, 1937 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hadley of Coldwater, Kansas.

After his graduation from college, he taught in the high school at Ogden, Iowa, until his last illness. He was a member of the Friends church until he moved to Ogden where he united with the Methodist church.

He was taken seriously ill on February 2 and after a weeks illness, passed away at the Boone hospital, on February 10, 1940, at the age of 25 years, three months, and 15 days. He leaves to mourn--his wife Dorothy, his father and mother, Willis and Nora Craven, of Linden; a sister, Mrs. Pauline Comly, of Earlham, and many other relatives and friends.
