Succumbed at Hospital in Des Moines After Long Illness
Mrs. Sherman Baker, one of this community's most widely and favorably known farm women, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines Wednesday afternoon of this week.
Mrs. Baker was a life-long resident of Madison county, and for many years, had lived five miles south of Winterset. She was the former Jessie Niblo, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Niblo of Jackson township.
She had been in ill health for some time and was taken to the hospital in Des Moines recently for a major operation.
She is survived by her husband, a brother, John Niblo, of Huron, S. Dak., and a sister, Mrs. Charles Rumford of Ottawa, Kan.
Funeral arrangements had not been announced as the Madisonian went to press.

Well Known Farm Woman Succumbs In Hospital At Des Moines Wednesday.
Mrs. Sherman Baker, 60, one of Madison county’s most well known and active farm women, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Wednesday afternoon of last week. She had been in ill health for some time and was a patient in the Methodist hospital following a major operation, Saturday, November 26.
Jessie Bell Niblo, daughter of Robert and Gertrude Backus Niblo, was born in Jackson township, Madison county, August 27, 1878. With her parents, she moved to Winterset in 1900 and on Dec. 24, 1903, was united in marriage to Sherman Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Baker lived for eight years on a farm nine miles south of Winterset; in 1912 they moved to Winterset and lived for two years and then moved to a farm five miles south of Winterset where they have since resided.
Mrs. Baker united with the United Presbyterian church near Pitzer when a child but for the past 25 years had been an active worker in the Methodist church and in the Ladies’ Aid organization. She was also one of the leading workers in the Scott township Community Circle.
Those who survive are: her husband; one sister, Gertrude Niblo Rumford of Ottawa, Kan.; and one brother, John Niblo of Huron, So. Dak.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Methodist church by the Rev. J. R. McNichols and Rev. A. P. Keast of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Niblo of Vinton; Mrs. Ellen Niblo of Snydon; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Niblo, Mrs. Will Niblo and Mrs. Bert Sarchett and son of Redfield; Mrs. Charles E. Rumford and Alton L. Rumford of Ottawa, Kan.; George Dooley of Dexter; Mrs. Velma Ashey, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith and daughter Margaret Ann of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Effie Kimer and sons Grant and Lewis of Indianola; Eldon Baker and Guy Howard of Flint, Mich.; and Mrs. Frank Van Dyke of Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Watkins, Lillie Deal, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Deal of Jefferson and Lee Deal and son Robert of Bagley.
