Thursday, January 30, 1936DEATH OF LEMUEL BEEM
Years of ill health ended in the death, January 25, of Lemuel L. Beem, a pioneer settler in the Winterset community. He was 78 years of age.
Mr. Beem was the son of Richard and Elsie Beem and was born in Jackson county, Indiana in 1857. As a child, he moved to Iowa, with his parents and the remainder of his life was spent in and around Winterset.
On December 22, 1881, he was married to Laura E. Rose. She preceded him in death on January 6, 1928. They were the parents of nine children; Julia and Helen, who died in infancy, Mrs. Florence Roberts, who died in 1925; Mrs. Myrtle Furrow of Mullen, Nebraska; Mrs. Lulu Estel, Mrs. Stella Craven, Susie Beem, Mrs. Amanda Allen and Clarence W. Beem, all of Winterset.
In addition to his children he is survived by fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Newton Beem of Los Angeles, California and John and Walter Beem of Winterset; three sisters, Sadie Mendenhall of Kansas City, Kansas; Maude Smith of Wynona, Mississippi and Ollie Peel of Omaha, Nebraska. Two sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Rose Young and Mrs. Ezra Herman.
Funeral services were held January 27 at Tidrick's funeral home in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead of the Church of Christ. Four grandsons and two nephews served as pall bearers. They were Floyd and Lester Craven, Ellia and Eldon Beem and Paul White and Donald Beem. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
