Funeral Rites Held at U. P. Church Here Last Monday
Winterset suffered the loss of one of its most widely known residents last Friday in the death of Mrs. Dora I. Henderson at the Nix hospital in San Antonio, Texas where she had been living for the past several months. She was 83 years of age.
Mrs. Henderson was the former Dora Iona Moore and was born at Lewis, Iowa on April 23, 1853. At the age of 15 she moved with her parents to Louisa county. There she was married on September 29, 1874 to William Richard Henderson. In 1884 they moved to Clearfield, Iowa, where they lived until 1900 then coming to Winterset, which has since been her home.
As a girl she united with the United Presbyterian church at Ainsworth, Iowa, retaining her affiliation until April of this year, when she transferred her membership to the Tobin Hill Presbyterian church of San Antonio.
Mrs. Henderson's husband died in 1922. Their first child, Clyde Byron died in infancy and two daughters, Mrs. Helen Forsythe of Dixon, Illinois and Mrs. Audrey Williams of Cedar Rapids preceded their mother in death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ferne Chapman of Rockford, Illinois and Mrs. Lillian Smith of Winterset; two sons, Valentine J. Henderson of Twin Falls, Idaho and Erle Henderson of Winterset, besides 10 grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.
Following her death, short services were held at the Hagy-McCollum Chapel in San Antonio, conducted by the pastor there, the Rev. C. E. McStrovick. The body was returned to Winterset, where funeral services were held on Monday at the United Presbyterian church in charge of the Rev. W. G. Robertson, pastor. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. Pallbearers were John Brownlie, Walter Comp, John McKee, Ralph McLees, Dr. J. F. Veltman and Ray Poindexter.
