Death of Mrs. Mable Black

Mrs. Mable Black, the former Roberta Chase of the Winterset and Dexter communities, died at the home of her parents, in Greenfield last Friday after an illness of several months. She was 39 years old.

Mrs. Black was the former Mable Roberta Chase and was born August 23, 1897 near Winterset, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Chase. She graduated from Dexter high school in 1916 and taught one year in the public schools. On December 26, 1917 she was married to Charles Black. They were the parents of three daughters, Roberta Mae, Iola Maxine, and Eva Rachel; and one son Edward, who died in infancy.

At the age of 8 years, Mrs. Black had united with the West Star Methodist church. After moving to Pitzer, she transferred to the United Presbyterian church there. Upon moving to Greenfield, she again affiliated with the Methodist church, where she was active in the Missionary and Ladies' Aid societies.

She is survived by her husband, three daughters, her parents, a sister, Hazel and a brother, Verle.

Funeral services were held from the Greenfield Methodist church last Saturday in charge of the Rev. J. R. McNichols, assisted by the Rev. Fermer Barnes of Hamburg, an intimate friend of the family. The body was brought to Winterset for burial.
