Death of Matt Purscell

James Madison (Matt) Purscell veteran resident of Winterset died at his home here Saturday at the advanced age of 81 years. (d. 9-12-1936)

Mr. Purscell was born in this county on March 21, 1855 and spent his entire life here. He had lived for 40 years in his home in the north part of town. He was the son of Benjamin and Mattie Bishop Purscell.

Funeral services were held Monday from Tidrick's funeral home in charge of the Rev. Mr. Cochran. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

James Madison Purscell

James Madison Purscell, resident of Madison county for over 80 years, died at his home Saturday, September 12, at the age of 81 years. In 1874 he was united in marriage to Sarah Ellen Berlein and to this union nine children were born, three preceding him and that. He was married in 1915 Florence Berlein who died about a month ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mae Smith of Creston, and Mrs. Minnie Dunbreska of Torrington, Wyoming, and four sons, Charles, James, Lee and Wilbur, all of Winterset, one sister, Mrs. Mary Barnett of Virginia, and one brother, John of Neola.

Funeral services were conducted at the Tidrick funeral home by the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr., of the Baptist church. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
