MRS. MARY WITT DIED AT MACKSBURG FRIDAY

Came to Madison County in Covered Wagon as A Child

Macksburg---(Special)---Mrs. Mary M. Witt, long-time resident of the Macksburg community died here last Friday at the age of 84 years.

Mrs. Witt was the former Mary Madaline Johnston, daughter of Alex and Elizabeth Johnston, and was born Sept. 4, 1854, in Brookville, Ind. In 1886, in a covered wagon, she came with her parents to Madison county. With the exception of three years in South Dakota, she had lived here the rest of her life.

She united with the Christian church at Early Chapel when a young girl. Later she transferred her membership to the Macksburg Methodist church.

She was married to Otho Witt on September 23, 1884. They were the parents of three sons, and one daughter, all of whom survive.

Mrs. Witt leaves her husband; the daughter, Mrs. Leatha Pindell of Macksburg; the three sons, Ora Witt of Macksburg, Arch Witt of Lorimor, and Ray Witt of Creston; seven grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a brother, John Johnston of Earlham.

Funeral services were held at the Macksburg Methodist church Sunday in charge of the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
