Macksburg News Items

Funeral services for Thomas Porter were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12 at 2 o’clock conducted by the Rev. M. D. Summerbell and burial was made in the Moon cemetery. Mr. Porter was the father of Mrs. Chas. Mobley, Mrs. Oren Thomas and Carl Porter and had made his home in Oklahoma for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Wearmouth accompanied the body here.

THOS. PORTER RITES HELD AT MACKSBURG

Pioneer Resident of County Died February 8 in Oklahoma

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Macksburg on February 12, for Thomas J. Porter, a pioneer Madison county resident, who died February 8 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. T. Werhan, of near Wainwright, Okla.

The services were conducted in charge of the Rev. M. D. Summerbell, pastor of the Macksburg Methodist church.

Mr. Porter was 80 years of age at the time of his death. He was the father of Mrs. Orin Thomas of Macksburg, and of Carl Porter and Mrs. C. H. Mobley of Lorimor.

In addition to the children mentioned above, he is survived by the following children: Charles Porter of Wainswright, Okla., Clyde Porter of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Floyd Porter of Memphis, Tenn. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Mason of Monmouth, Ill., 15 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. His wife, who was the former Rosa Grandfield died in 1907.

T. J. PORTER DIES IN OKLAHOMA

T.J. Porter, 80 years of age, died at the home of his son, Charles, in Council Hill, Oklahoma. Mr. Porter was born in Madison county December 6, 1858 and spent most of his life here, later moving to Oklahoma.

The body was brought to Lorimor and the funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at two o’clock in the Methodist church in Macksburg.

Those who survive are, Charles F. Porter of Council Hill, Oklahoma; Clyde E. of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Carl of Afton; Hal of Texas; Floyd of Memphis, Tennessee; Mrs. E. T. Wuehan of Council Hill, Oklahoma; Mrs. C. H. Mobly of Lorimor and Mrs. Oren Thocas of Macksburg.

DEATHS AND FUNERALS

Funeral services for Thomas Jefferson Porter, 80, pioneer Muskogee county resident who died Tuesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. T. Werhan, Wainwright, will be held this morning at 10:30 o’clock at the Lescher chapel. The body will be sent to Lorimor, Iowa for burial.

Porter had lived in the Wainwright area since 1904, and was engaged in farming and stock raising for many years. He came to Oklahoma from Madison county, Iowa, and was a member of the Masonic lodge, No. 430, Muskogee.
