Friends in this neighborhood were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. May, mother of Seldon Welch at her home in Columbia, Sunday evening. Mrs. May formerly lived here with her son.

Death of Mrs. T. V. Ray

Mrs. T. V. Ray, former Madison county resident, died at her home in Columbia, Sunday, July 26th. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Columbia Tuesday, July 28th and the body was brought to Winterset and short services were held here at the local cemetery.

Mrs. May who was the former Martha Jane Kennedy, was a daughter of Josiah and Mary Kennedy and was born October 8, 1862 at Gosport in Marion county. She was 73 years of age at the time of her death.

When a small girl, the family moved to Lucas county, where she resided until her marriage to John T. Welch on February 22, 1885. They came to Winterset and lived for many years on a farm south of Winterset. In 1906 the family moved to Winterset. They were the parents of two sons, Pearl and Seldon Welch, both of Winterset. Mr. Welch preceded her in death September 12, 1923.

Mr. and Mrs. Welch were both members of the Methodist church here. On November 9, 1931 she was married to a childhood friend, T. V. May of Columbia, Iowa and since then they have made their home there.

Mrs. May is survived by her husband, T. V. May, two sons, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Oder of Winterset and Mrs. Rachel Yeck of Merna, Nebraska and three brothers, William, George and John Kennedy of Broken Bow, Nebraska. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
