MRS. J. M. FITZGERALD SUCCUMBS AT TRURO

Dies at Age of 80; Resident of Madison County Since 1864

Mrs. J. M. Fitzgerald of Truro, a resident of Madison county since 1864, died Nov. 8 at her home in Truro. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was born Zilpha Estella Savage, in Jackson county, Ohio, on Nov. 27, 1857. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Savage.

The family came to Iowa in 1864, and here she was married May 3, 1877, to James M. Fitzgerald. He died in 1918. Since then Mrs. Fitzgerald has lived alone most of the time.

She was converted and joined the Methodist church when 13 years of age. In 1884 she transferred to the Christian church.

Mrs. Fitzgerald leaves seven children: Charlie Fitzgerald of Truro, John and Fred Fitzgerald of Winterset, Edd Fitzgerald of Omaha, Mrs. Bessie Fulmer of Des Moines, Mrs. Mayme Chase of Kansas City; and Mrs. Velma Brooks of Springfield, Mo.; as well as 22 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Two of her children died in infancy, and two others, Mrs. Edith Jones and Mrs. Beadie Abbott, preceded their mother in death.

Funeral services were conducted last Thursday by the Rev. A. D. White in the Truro Christian church, and burial was made in the Hartman cemetery. Pallbearers were Merrill Creger, Charles Kale, Frank Davis, Lewis Mease, and Gene and Miles Husted.

Zilpha Fitzgerald

Zilpha Estella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Savage, was born in Jackson county, Ohio, November 27, 1857. In 1864 the family moved to Iowa and on May 3, 1877 she was united in marriage to James Martin Fitzgerald. To this union eleven children were born of whom an infant son and daughter passed on.

The family suffered a great loss in 1918 with the death of the husband and father. Since that time two daughter, Mrs. Edith Jones and Mrs. Beadie Abbott have also passed away. Mrs. Fitzgerald had lived alone most of the time since her husband’s death.

She was converted and joined the M. E. church when 13 years of age, then joined the Christian church in 1884. She lived a good Christian life. Altho, suffering much pain during the last year, she was always so patient and kind and never complaining, but always thoughtful of others.

She passed away at her home in Truro, Nov. 8, 1938, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 12 days, leaving to mourn their loss, 7 children, Charlie of Truro, John and Fred of Winterset, Edd of Omaha, Bessie Fulmer of Des Moines, Mayme Chase of Kansas City, MO., Velma Brooks of Springfield, Mo.; 22 grand children, 10 great grand children and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2 p. m. by A. D. White in the Christian church in Truro, and burial was made in the Hartman cemetery.

Pallbearers were Merrill Creger, Chas. Kale, Frank Davis, Lewis Mease, Gene and Miles Husted.
