SAMUEL HARVEY TOLLEY

Samuel Harvey Tolley, son of Harvey and Martha Tolley, was born in Carlton, Carroll county, Missouri, January 19, 1858 and passed away at Iowa City, August 22, 1936 at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 3 days after a lingering illness of several days.

At the age of 39 he united with the Christian church at Merchlain, Missouri. He came to Madison county, Iowa in 1902 which place has been his home with the exception of four years spent in Guthrie county, the past year in Union.

He was married to Rebecca Gibson, December 25, 1879. To this union four children were born, three dying in infancy and George of Hines hospital, Hines, Illinois.

The mother died in April 1891. He was married to Lillie May Jones, March 24, 1895 and to this union seven children were born, Lela May who died in infancy, John Harvey who died October 9, 1932, Pearl Goodrich of Truro, Ethel Green of Casey, Iowa, Opal Pew Kipp of Kansas and Earl and Lois of the home.

Funeral services were held in the Baptist church, August 24, at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
