Charles L. Simmons, a resident of Madison county since 1888, died at his home here Sunday of pernicious anemia. He was 79 years of age. (d. 12-27-1936)
Mr. Simmons was the son of William R. and Celesta J. Simmons and was born June 10, 1858 near Four Corners in Jefferson county. He attended the public schools and spent his early years in that county.
On April 8, 1883 in Mt. Pleasant he was married to Blanche Frazier of Salem. They came immediately to Madison county and went to farming 11 miles south of Winterset near the Deer Creek school house.
In 1896 he joined the Christian church at Pleasant Ridge in Union county and later transferred his membership to the Baptist church of Macksburg. He joined the Masonic lodge at Mt. Pleasant and was later a member of the lodge at Afton. He was also affiliated with the Modern Woodmen lodge.
Eleven years ago he moved to Winterset and continued to reside here until his death. For the past eight years he had been caretaker of the county yards.
In addition to his widow he is survived by a daughter, Grace Pinckney of near Macksburg; a son, Clark A. Simmons of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Samuel C. Simmons of Bakersfield, California; two sisters, Mrs. Lelah Linda of Kingsburg, California and Mrs. Della Vorhels of Lockridge; and a niece, Mrs. C. H. Wicks of Earlham. One daughter, Gladys, died six years ago.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr. pastor of the Winterset Baptist church, on Tuesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery with Masonic rites.

Clark L. Simmons, 78, son of William R. and Celesta J. Simmons died Sunday at noon of pernicious anemia, after a year's ill health. He came to Winterset 11 years ago and the last eight years was caretaker of the county yards.
Services were conducted by the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr. pastor of the Winterset Baptist church, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery with Masonic rites. Pallbearers were C.E. Spurgin, F.M. Alexander, P.G. Rollstin, Charles Wright, Ray Dunbar and the Rev. L.F. Davis.

Chas. L. Simmons died at his home in Winterset on December 27th. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Cochrane on Tuesday, from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. The Simmons family were former residents of this place, and Mrs. Grace Pinckney is a daughter.
