Thursday, March 19, 1936Death of Mrs. Ira Melaas
Mrs. Ira Melaas, wife of the deputy receiver of the Madison county savings bank died at her home on West Filmore street, early last Monday morning, after a five day illness with pneumonia. Mrs. Melaas became ill last Tuesday and her condition became critical on Friday. Death came at three o'clock Monday morning March 16th.
Mr. and Mrs. Melaas who had been married fifteen years, came to Winterset, last October from Des Moines and since then have resided in the S. J. Warren house on West Filmore street.
Mrs. Melaas, who was 37 years of age, was the former Miss Medelia Kalsem, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Kalsem of Huxley. She leaves her husband and their four children, Donald, aged 11, Helen 8, Bruce 5 and Ira Jr. 3. She also leaves her parents, three sisters, Mrs. C. E. Larsen of Slater, Mrs. Sophas Berhow of Huxley, and Miss Nellie E. Kalsem of Chicago, and one brother, Orville Kalsem of Huxley. These relatives drove here on Monday and have been at the Melaas home since then. Mrs. Melaas was newcomer here but took an active part in the North Ward parent-teacher association.
The Rev. J. N. Anderson, pastor of the Fjeldberg Lutheran church at Huxley will conduct short funeral services at the home at eleven o'clock this morning and regular services will be held at the church at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Burial will be at Huxley.
