MRS. JAMES FORESMAN DIED

Elderly Woman Had Lived in Madison County Since 1856

The passing of another Madison county pioneer occurred last Thursday in the death of Mrs. Mary Esther Foresman in Winterset.

Mrs. Foresman had been a resident of Madison county since 1856 when she came here with her parents from Pennsylvania. She was 85 years of age and had been an invalid since March 1935.

She was the former Mary Esther Travis, daughter of Lavina Beyer and Martin Beatty Travis and was born in Brookville, Pennsylvania, July 7, 1851. At the age of 5 years she came with her parents to Winterset. They later moved to a farm in Walnut township.

On November 15, 1874, she was married to James Foresman. For almost their entire married life they lived in Winterset. Mr. Foresman died in 1912.

They were the parents of five children, one of whom, James Mortimer died in 1910. Those surviving are Mrs. Lavina Hartsook of Winterset, Mrs. Beatrice Speers of Centerville, Mrs. Gertrude Warner of Independence, Missouri and Robert Foresman of New York City.

In childhood, Mrs. Foresman had united with the Methodist church remaining a faithful member throughout life.

In addition to her children, she is survived by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, Thomas H. Travis of Scott township and a sister, Mrs. Eva Foster of Great Bend, Kansas.

Funeral services were held last Saturday from Tidrick's Funeral home in charge of the Rev. M. R. Talley of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
