Winterset, IowaFRANK EMERSON DIES
DeSoto--(Special)--May 5. Frank Emerson, a farmer living south of DeSoto, died at his home Monday night, May 2, after an illness of several months with cancer.
Mr. Emerson was about 80 years of age and had lived in this vicinity for many years. Before moving to the farm where he died, he lived for a number of years on the farm northwest of DeSoto, now owned by Charles Phillips.
Mr. Emerson's first wife died a good many years ago, and he remarried. Surviving are his widow and a son and daughter, Harlan and Genevieve, and a son Roy, by his first marriage. Two daughters, Maud Nesbitt and Norma Bechtel, died a number of years ago. Mr. Emerson raised a grandson, Kenneth Bechtel, who survives, and he is also survived by two other grandsons, Merle and Ralph Nesbitt.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Fisher funeral home in Van Meter and Thursday the body was taken to Cedar Rapids for burial near his old home.

Winterset, IowaFrank Henry Emerson, eldest son of HIram and Emily Emerson was born December 16, 1857, in Cedar county, Iowa, and died May 2, 1938 at his home south of DeSoto at the age of 80 years.
His early life was spent in Cedar county, living there until he had reached the age of 43, moving then to a farm northwest of DeSoto and from there to the farm south of DeSoto, where he lived until the time of his death.
While in his early manhood, he was united in marriage with Bell Mathews. To this union were born three children, Roy Emerson of Van Meter, and two daughters, now deceased, Maud Nesbitt, and Norma Bechtel. Mrs. Bell Emerson died quite early in life, at the age of 28, leaving Mr. Emerson to care for the three small children.
In 1903 Mr. Emerson was married to Mae Leslie and two children came to bless this union, Harland Emerson of DeSoto and Genevieve of Norwalk.
When Frank Emerson was a young man, he affiliated with the Methodist church at Massillon.
Beside his wife and his two sons, Roy and Harland and his daughter Genevieve, he leaves to mourn his death, three grandsons, Merle and Ralph Nesbitt and Kenneth Bechtel; three great grandchildren; two brothers, W. A. Emerson of Cedar Rapis and L. E. Emerson of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. P. T. Mitchell of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. J. N. Barnhart of Toronto.
Funeral services were held at the Massillon church, Thursday afternoon, at 1:30, with Gordon Smith in charge. Burial was in the Massillon cemetery.
