MAY STURMAN FREEL DIES

Mrs. May Sturman Freel, former Madison county resident, died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Carolyn Forney Banker, near Osceola, early Monday morning, July 25th. Her funeral services are being held in Osceola this afternoon.

Mrs. Freel was raised in Union township, on the farm now occupied by the H. C. Grulke family. She was married to Dr. C. R. Freel and for a number of years, he practiced madicine in Peru. Later the family moved to Murray where he continued his profession. Dr. Freel and two of their sons, Leo and Gailen, preceded the mother in death, Leo bing killed in service during the World war. She leaves one son, Cecil of Des Moines.

Carrie Mae Sturman, daughter of Thomas and Caroline Sturman was born July 28, 1870, at Winterset, Iowa, and departed this life July 25, 1938, at the home of loved ones near Murray, having reached the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

She grew to womanhood and acquired her education in Madison county, later attending Simpson college at Indianola. She was a highly successful teacher for a number of years and taught in Madison, Warren, and Marion counties.

On September 6, 1893 she was united in marriage to Dr. Cecil Freel of Pleasantville. To this union were born three sons, Leo, Galen and Cecil.

The deceased became a member of the Methodist church at an early age. Later, when her sons united with the Christian church of Murray, she transferred her membership to that church and retained it until the time of her passing.

For many years Mrs. Freel was an active member of the W.C.T.U., the Yeoman lodge, the Eastern Star, Rebekahs, and Ladies of Pythias.

For eleven years she had been a patient sufferer. The last fourteen months of her life were spent with her sister, Mrs. Forney, and her niece, Mrs. Banker, who tenderly cared for her during her last illness.

Preceding her in death were two sons, Leo and Galen, her husband, Dr. Freel, her parents, a sister, and three brothers.

She leaves to mourn her loss, one son, Cecil of Des Moines, her daughter-in-law, Catharine, a little granddaughter, Mary Ann, two sisters, Mrs. Leota Forney of Murray and Mrs. George Barr of Westhope, North Dakota, many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Robert Burns, were held from Webster's funeral home in Osceola, Wednesday, July 27th, at 2 p.m. Interment was made at Pleasantville. Members of the American Legion Post at that place served as pall bearers.
