Mrs. Laura Criss Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Criss Wright, former Winterset resident, were held at Tidrick's funeral home, Monday afternoon, January 6th and burial was in the Winterset cemetery. Rev. H. L. Olmstead conducted the services.

Mrs. Wright, who was 76 years of age, died at her home at 1347 Twenty-second street in Des Moines Saturday, January 4th, after a long illness. Born in Poweshiek county she moved to Madison county. Over fifteen years ago, she moved to Des Moines, and has been living with her daughter, Mrs. W. D. McCleeary.

In addition to Mrs. McCleeary, she leaves another daughter, Mrs. R. G. Hendershott of Des Moines and a son Ray Criss of Newton. She is also survived by three brothers, Frederick Shearer of Portland, Oregon, Burt Shearer of Stuart and Marion Shearer of Des Moines and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Evans, Mrs. Stella Cheatham and Mrs. Ora Miller of Portland, Oregon. Seven grandchildren also survive her.

MRS. WRIGHT DIES AT HOME

Funeral for Native Iowan in Winterset Monday.

Mrs. Laura Criss Wright, 76, of 1347 Twenty-second st., died Saturday at home after a long illness.

Born in Poweshiek county, she moved to Madison county, later coming to Des Moines to live with her daughter, Mrs. W. D. McCleeary.

She is also survived by another daughter, Mrs. R. G. Hendershott, of Des Moines, and a son, Ray Criss, of Newton, Ia.; three brothers, Frederick Shearer, of Portland, Ore., Burt Shearer, of Stuart, Neb., and Marion Shearer, of Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Evans, Mrs. Stella Cheatman, and Mrs. Ora Miller of Portland, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at Winterset, Ia. Interment will be at Winterset.

Mrs. Laura Wright Succumbs to Pneumonia. Services Here Monday.

Mrs. Laura Criss Wright, 76, former resident of Winterset, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. D. McCleeary in Des Moines. She had been in feeble health a number of years and was stricken with pneumonia December 31. She had made her home in Des Moines a number of years with her two daughters, Mrs. R. G. Hendershott, and Mrs. McCleeary.

Mrs. Wright came to Winterset several times each year to attend to business matters and to visit old friends. Services were held here Monday afternoon conducted by the Rev. H. L. Olmstead at the Tidrick funeral home at two o’clock. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

This is Wright was Laura Annetta Shearer and was born in Poweshiek county, January 14, 1859, the daughter of S. W. and Abagail Ann Shearer. When a young girl she came to Madison county with her parents. She was married to Avery Hudson Criss March 13, 1883. Six children were born to them. Mr. Criss died in December 1918.

This is Wright united with the Church of Christ here, of which she was always a loyal member. She was a member of the Pitzer post, Women’s Relief Corps of Winterset. In 1928 she was married to Charles W. Wright died in 1930.

She is survived by her three children, her daughters in Des Moines, and a son, Roy Criss of new. Three of her children are deceased, two dying in infancy and a son, Ralph, dying in 1916. Other surviving are six grandchildren and a granddaughter, three brothers, Burt, of Stuart, Nebraska; Fred of Portland, Oregon, and Marion of Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Tom Evans, of Troutdale, Oregon; Mrs. Stella Cheatham and Mrs. Margaret Miller, of Portland, Oregon.
