WILLIAM ZERN DIED SUNDAY AT DALLAS

William Zern, veteran Winterset resident, died in Dallas, Texas, Sunday, where he had been spending the winter at the home of his son, Jack Zern, according to word received here Monday.

Mr. Zern came to Madison county from Illinois as a young man, settling on a farm in Lincoln township. He later moved to Winterset to work for the C. R. Peters Implement company and was in the employ of that organization here for 30 years.

He leaves two sons, Ray of Oklahoma, and Jack of Dallas, Texas; and two daughters, Cline of Washington state and Grace of Chicago.

The local Masonic lodge, of which he was one of the oldest members will participate in his funeral services, which will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

William Zern

William Zern was born November 7, 1861 at Pontoosuc, Illinois, and died at the home of his son Clarence, in Dallas, Texas, March 7, 1937 age 75 years and 4 months. On December 29, 1886 he was married to Florence Cline at Breckenridge, Illinois. Four children were born to them.

He lived for several years on a farm near Colusa, Illinois, coming to Iowa in 1901. He was employed at the Peters implement company for over 25 years. He united with the Baptist church over 30 years ago. It was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years.

He leaves his four children: C. Ray Zern of Thayer, Missouri; Cline Zern Boynton of Spokane, Washington, Grace Zern, Chicago, Illinois; Clarence Jack Zern Dallas, Texas, a brother and a sister, three grandchildren and a great grandson. Mrs. Zern died October 3, 1935.
