Mrs. Josephine M. Killam Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine M. Killam, former Winterset resident, are being held at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home this afternoon at two o’clock. Mrs. Killam who would have been 84 years of age, next month, moved from Winterset to Malvern, with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hall, two years ago.

She had been in good health until several weeks ago and died after a short illness at two o’clock Wednesday morning. Four sons and a daughter survive her: Mrs. Hall, Mrs. L. F. Lyons of St. Charles, Mrs. E. D. Goodrich of Murray, Mrs. R. E. Erb, of Des Moines and E. N. Killam of Los Angeles.

Short funeral services for Mrs. Killam were held at Malvern, Wednesday afternoon, at the Mansfield Funeral home, and the body was brought here, last evening. More details of her life will be given in next week’s issue.

Mrs. James M. Killam

Elosia Josephine Finney was born in Delaware county, Ohio, May 25, 1850. She came to Madison county, Iowa, with her parents when eight years of age.

On December 25, 1868 she was united in marriage with James M. Killam. Through the years they were residents of Madison county. Eight children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. Mr. Killam died May 13, 1924. A son, Hermie of Des Moines died the 5th of January last year.

Mrs. Killam was a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was a Sunday school teacher through all her active life and always gave her service cheerfully. She had a rich Christian experience and always rejoiced in the work of the church. As she aged her mental faculties were unimpaired, even up to within an hour of her death. Just three weeks ago she went to Greenfield from Malvern to see her great grandchild.

Mrs. Killam died at the home of her daughter Mrs. J. R. Hall in Malvern on Tuesday April 24th at 2:00 a.m. A short funeral service was held at the funeral home in Malvern by Rev. R. E. Guegler on Wednesday afternoon.

Six children survive to mourn the passing of their mother. They are E. N. Killam of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Cora Lyon of St. Charles; Mrs. J. R. Hall of Malvern; Mrs. Elizabeth Eard of Des Moines; and Mrs. Maud Goodrich of Murray. There are seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She is also survived by two brothers and three sisters. They are Ben F. Finney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; William Finney in California; Mrs. Sarah Hall of Winterset; Mrs. Electa McDowell of Des Moines and Mrs. Anna Wilson of Rogersville, Missouri.

Final funeral rites were held at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home in Winterset on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. L. H. Lanning having charge. Interment was made in the cemetery at St. Charles.
