St. Charles – (Special) – J. L. Bartrug passed away at the county farm Thursday evening, where he had been taken on Monday for medical treatment. He had been living on the Ogburn farm southwest of town for several months, but his health became so poor it was thought best to move him where he could be cared for.
Mr. Bartrug was 68 years of age, a man of quiet, retiring disposition, honest and industrious and well liked by all who knew him. He never married and his only surviving immediate relative is one sister, Mrs. Jane Doty of Omaha. A niece, Mrs. A. C. Swanson and husband of Webster City, and a nephew, Carey Bartrug of Iowa Falls, were here to attend the funeral services, which were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church, with Rev. Nixon in charge of the services and Rev. Carnahan, of the United Presbyterian church, assisting. Burial was in the St. Charles cemetery beside his parents, who preceded him in death many years ago.
Other relatives who attended the services were S. E. Young and family and Mrs. Frances Musselman of Truro and Mrs. Liva Foreman of Winterset.
