Death of Joe J. Smith

Joe J. Smith of Winterset died at his home here Sunday at the age of 62 years.

Mr. Smith was the son of Levi and Sarah Smith and was born in this county on August 7, 1874. On March 26, 1900, he was married to Mabel Rogers. They were the parents of four children, two of them a son and daughter, dying in infancy.

He is survived by his widow, two sons, Levi Smith of Winterset and Clair Smith of Creston; a grandson; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Fosher and Mrs. L. J. Banks of Winterset and Mrs. Ed Danforth of Denver, Colorado; and two brothers, Wes Smith and Pros Smith, both of Winterset.

Funeral rites were conducted at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Monday in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead pastor of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.

LAST RITES ARE HELD FOR JOE J. SMITH

Last rites for Joe J. Smith, 62, who died Sunday at his home in the southwest part of Winterset, were held Monday afternoon at two o’clock at the Ramsey – Richards funeral home conducted by the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a member of one of the old families of the county and was born here August 7, 1874, the son of Levi and Sarah Smith. He was married to Miss Mabel Rogers March 26, 1900. They were the parents of four children, a son and a daughter, Pansy, dying in infancy.

Mr. Smith was a brick and stone mason, one of the most skillful to ply that trade in Winterset. He helped build many of the brick buildings in the county and had done much work on different state institutional buildings.

He leaves his wife, two sons Levi Bud Smith at home and Clair Smith of Creston, a grandson, three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Fosher, Mrs. L. J. Banks of Winterset and Mrs. Ed Danforth of Denver, Colorado, two brothers, Wes and Pros Smith, both of Winterset.
