Emma Jane Hughes was born in Marion county Iowa, June 14, 1860 and departed this life after an illness of 12 weeks, at her home in South township, Jan. 17, 1918, aged 57 years, 7 months and 8 days. The greater part of her life was spent near the place of her birth, until moving with her family to Madison county in 1900, where she has since resided.
She was united in marriage to C. P. Pointer, Feb. 2, 1877 and to this union were born two children; Mrs. C. M. Boling of Lorimor and Corwin, who is at home. Besides the husband and children she is survived by two grandchildren, three sisters; Mrs. Polly Carter of Pleasantville, Mrs. Hattie Hensley of Morrell, Nebr.; Mrs. Dora Mateer of Monroe, Iowa, and one brother, Asa of Sheridan, Wyom.; together with other relatives and a host of friends.
She was converted at an early age and united with the Christian church, being a faithful member to the end. The deceased was well known and highly respected by all who knew her having lived an honest, upright life and was always ready to help her neighbors in whatever way she could and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The funeral was held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Hanley M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Orcutt. Interment at St. Charles cemetery.
