Death of Mrs. Rebecca Cross

Mrs. Rebecca Cross, 73 year old Winterset resident, died at the Winterset hospital, early Monday morning, December 14th from complications resulting from pneumonia. Mrs. Cross was seriously ill several weeks ago with pneumonia, but it was thought that she was improving. She became worse last week and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Mrs. Cross who was the daughter of Cyrus Dawson and Frances Banneberger, was born in Story county, Iowa, November 9, 1863. She was married to James Franklin Cross on July 26, 1886 and they were the parents of seven daughters and one son. In 1886, Mr. and Mrs. Cross moved to Ira, Iowa, where they resided until twenty-eight years ago when they moved to Madison county. Mr. Cross died in 1923. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Wade Franklin in 1898 and her eldest daughter, Myrtella Smith in 1927. The surviving members of the family are Kathryn Blair of Harrisburg, Nebraska, Coral Castor of Ira, Lettita Leak of Lorimor, Esta Cannon of Newton, Fern Zenor of Ames and Miss Aura Cross of Winterset. She also leaves twenty-three grandchildren and two great grandsons, besides one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Cross was a member of the Methodist church.

The Rev. W. G. Robertson conducted her funeral services at Tidrick's funeral home, Wednesday morning December 16th and the body was taken to Ira for burial.

MRS. REBECCA CROSS DIES EARLY MONDAY

Mrs. Rebecca Cross, 73, died at the Winterset hospital early Monday. She had been ill for last month, pneumonia and complications causing her death. Services were held at nine o’clock Wednesday morning at the Tidrick funeral home conducted by the Rev. M. R. Talley, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was at Ira.

Rebecca Elizabeth, daughter of Cyrus Dawson and Francis Baumberger Dawson, was born in Story county November 9, 1863. She was a member of the Methodist church.

She was married to James Franklin Cross July 26, 1886. Mr. and Mrs. Cross lived in Ira 28 years before coming to Madison county. Seven daughters and a son were born to them. Mr. Cross died in 1923, the infant son Wade Franklin in 1898 and the eldest daughter Myrtilla Smith in 1927.

She leaves Kathryn Bair of Harrisburg, Nebraska; Coral Castor Ira; Letitia Leak Lorimor; Esta Cannon of Newton; Fern Zenor of Ames, and Aura Cross at home; 23 grandchildren, two great grandsons, a brother and a sister.
