NewtonJim Purcell, 68, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Taylor House in Des Moines following a long term illness. Jim was born May 5, 1938, in Winterset. He has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2007, at 2 p.m., and at 1:30 p.m. the family will be present to visit with friends. There will be a private burial at a later date. “God saw you getting tired and the cure could not be, so He put His arms around you and said, ‘Come with Me.’
Preceding him in death was his wonderful wife, Shirley and now they are together in heaven. He served in the Army and also worked for the Maytag Corp. in Newton for 40 plus years. He was a member of the U.A.W. 997 union. Jim has been a long time resident of Newton.
Jim has one son, Russell (Colene) Purcell and two step-grandsons, Wesley and Jasper of St. Joseph, MO; two sisters, Nancy (Tom) Parker of Bussey, and Paulette L. Olson of Altoona; brother Frank (Rose) Purcell of Des Moines; his stepfather Edward Wood of Indianola. Jim also has five nieces and one nephew; six great-nieces and eight great nephews. Also preceding him in death is his step-mother, Madeline and father, Russell E. Purcell; his brother, Clyde Purcell and his mother Mary Woods.
