Funeral of Mrs. Dunmire Held Friday

Last Rites for Loved Lady Attended by Great Company

Mae Belle Penn, daughter of Edmund and Martha Penn, was born in Warren county, near Prole, Iowa, January 13, 1879, and passed away October 9, 1935, aged 56 years, 9 months and 26 days. While a very small child she moved with her parents from Warren county to a farm northeast of Winterset, where she lived until the death of her father, when the mother and family moved into Winterset.

On June 12th, 1907, she united in marriage with Harry Dunmire and moved to a farm eight miles south of Dexter, Iowa, where they made their home until removing to Dexter, February 1933, making their home in Dexter until the time of her death.

On January 29, 1921, the parental heart of these two prompted them to receive into the home an orphan boy, Harold Mark. Beside the husband and the foster son, Harold Dunmire, she is survived by four sisters: Mrs. Ida Rhodes, Adel, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie Taylor, Winterset, Iowa; Mrs. Emma McClarand, Macksburg, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary Johnston, Dexter, Iowa; three brothers: Elmer and Ed, Dexter, and Tom, Winterset. Besides these a host of other relatives and friends mourn the passing of a loved one. Her mother died in their Dexter home, September 11, 1924, also one sister and three brothers preceded her in death.

In early childhood she united with the United Brethren church, transferring membership to the Penn Center Methodist church at the time of her marriage.

At about six years of age she was the victim of an illness which later was recognized as infantile paralysis, leaving her partially handicapped in walking about. Later injuries and succeeding illness left her a partial invalid. With a temperament naturally sunny and a firm determination to rise above the physical handicap, she succeeded in making of her life a monument to courage and happy living. Truly her life is a benediction to cheer the husband and the son in return for their kindly care during the months and years of her affliction, and every friend and neighbor is the better for having touched hand and heart with this victorious life.

Funeral services were held from the Dexter Methodist church Friday afternoon, Oct. 11, conducted by Rev. Fred B. Moore and Rev. Wm. E. Youtsler. Interment was in the Penn Center cemetery.

Those attending the funeral services from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Carey of Atlantic, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Kitching of Creston, Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Colgin, Mrs. Frank Spencer and Mrs. Lou Smith of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Gentry, Carl Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bek and Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Wright of Winterset, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. McChesy of Fontanelle, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilson of Newton.
