Death of Mrs. Elmer Allen

The death of Mrs. Elmer Allen, a life-long resident of Madison county, occurred at her home in Winterset, Monday after a fatal illness of several weeks. She was 65 years old. (d. 2-17-1936)

Mrs. Allen was born Mary Melinda Landers near Patterson on August 17, 1871. She was married to Elmer Allen on March 20, 1890. They were the parents of six children, five boys and a girl.

Mrs. Allen united with the Church of Christ in Winterset at an early age, attending there until her health prevented in recent years.

She is survived by her husband; the children, Charlie Allen, Hiram Allen, Millard Allen, Frank Allen and Mrs. Eliza Hildebrand, all of Winterset. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and eight half sisters, Mrs. Anna Ray of Booneville, Mrs. Lollie Gentry and Mrs. Fern Harrell of Winterset, Mrs. Maude Harless, Mrs. Clyde Harrison, Mrs. Bessie Reimann and Miss Gertie Landers, all of Jefferson; and a half brother Perry Landers of Arispe.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, from Tidrick's funeral home in Winterset and burial was made in the North River U. B. Cemetery. (North McDonald cemetery)

MRS. ELMER ALLEN DIES FEBRUARY 17

Mrs. Elmer Allen, 65, died Monday at her home in the northeast part of Winterset. The Rev. L. F. Davis had charge of the services Wednesday afternoon at the Tidrick funeral home. Burial was in the North River United Brethren cemetery, blocked roads to the cemetery being opened by a crew of men and county maintainers.

Mrs. Allen was Mary Melinda Landers and was born August 16, 1871, in Madison county near Patterson. She was the eldest daughter of Hiram and Eliza Landers. She was married March 20, 1890 At an early age she became a member of the Church of Christ and took an active interest in her church as long as health permitted.

She leaves her husband, six children, Charles, Hiram, Fred, Millard and Frank Allen and Mrs. Eliza Hildebrand, all of Winterset.

Others who survive are twenty-three grandchildren, eight half-sisters, Mrs. Anna Ray, Booneville; Mrs. Fern Harrell, Winterset; Mrs. Grace Huff, Mrs. Maude Harless, Mrs. Clyde Harrison, Mrs. Bessie Reiman and Gertie Landers, all of Jefferson; a half-brother, Perry Landers, Arispe. Two full brothers, Ed and Alvin, are deceased.
