Winterset, IowaKATHERINE BORTELL DIES AT 100
Katherine C. Bortell died Saturday evening, Nov. 29, at Ramsey Memorial Home in Des Moines at the age of 100. A native of Grinnell, Mrs. Bortell lived there until moving to Des Moines in 1934.
She is survived by three children, Margaret Butzbach of Des Moines, Harry Bortell of Homestead, Fla., and Glen Bortell of St. Charles; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Sue Hayes of Sacramento, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer; a son, Kenneth; and a daughter, Ruth.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Smith's Funeral Home in Grinnell with burial at Hazelwood Cemetery at Grinnell.
