Death of Elijah Jones

Elijah Jones, a resident of Madison county since Civil war days, died at his home in Winterset, last Friday. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Jones was born in Menard county, Illinois on September 28, 1853. He came with his parents at the age of 11 years, their home being east of Winterset, until his marriage on December 14, 1871 to Mary Catherine Ross.

Mr. and Mrs. Jones were the parents of six children, one of whom died in infancy and two others, Anna and Mary, preceded their father in death. His wife died in 1928.

He is survived by one son, Perry Jones of Winterset; two daughters, Florence of Peru and Mayme of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. H. C. Hicks of Emerson, Iowa; a brother, John Jones of Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset in charge of the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr. pastor of the Winterset Baptist church. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
