Death of Adam H. Snyder

Adam H. Snyder, a resident of Penn township for 67 years, died at Earlham, July 6. He was 72 years of age.

Mr. Snyder was the third son of Eli and Carolyn Snyder and was born in Holmes county, Ohio, June 21, 1864. At the age of 5 years, he came to Iowa with his parents, the family settling in Penn township where he spent the remainder of his life.

He received his education in the rural schools of that community, later attending grammar school at Valpariso, Indiana and college at Drake university in Des Moines.

On March 11, 1885, he was united in marriage to Rhoda DeVault. They were the parents of two daughters, both of whom survive their father. They are Mrs. Lois Peer of Iowa City and Mrs. Carolyn Siebers of Denver, Colorado.

Mr. Snyder was a member of the Masonic lodge for 50 years and was also affiliated with the Order of Easter Star.

In addition to the two daughters, he is survived by his widow; two brothers; W. L. Snyder of Des Moines and J. A. Snyder of Davenport; and two grandchildren, Margrette and Claude Peer of Iowa City.

Funeral services were held from the Penn Center church in charge of the Rev. F. B. Moore. Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery.

SNYDER RITES HELD AT PENN CENTER

Adam Snyder Passed Away Monday After Suffering Stroke. Burial at Penn Center

Adam Snyder, 72, long time resident of Penn township, died at his home Monday after suffering a stroke. He had had a paralytic stroke six weeks previously.

Funeral services in charge of Rev. Fred Moore and the Masonic lodge, of which Mr. Snyder was a member, were held at the Penn Center Church Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock. Interment was in the Penn Center cemetery.

Adam H. Snyder, third son of Eli and Carolyn Snyder, was born in Holmes county, Ohio, June 21, 1864 and died July 6, 1936 at Earlham, Iowa, at the age of 72 years and 15 days.

At the age of five he came to Iowa with his parents and lived in Penn township the remainder of his life.

He received his education in the rural schools, later attending grammar school at Valpariso, Indiana, and college at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

On March 11, 1885, he was united in marriage with Rhoda DeVault. To this union two daughters were born, Lois and Carolyn.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for fifty years and also a member of the order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving him is his wife Rhoda; two brothers, W. L. Snyder of Des Moines, Iowa and J. A. Snyder of Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Lois Peer of Iowa City, and Carolyn Siebers of Denver, Colorado; and two grandchildren, Margrette and Claude Peer of Iowa City.

Funeral rites were held Wednesday, July 8th at 2 p.m. at the Penn Center church with the Rev. F. B. Moore of Dexter and the Masonic Lodge of Earlham officiating. Burial was at the Penn Center cemetery.
