JANET SCHALKLE

MRS. A. B. SCHALKLE BURIED WEDNESDAY

Dies After Weeks of Suffering in Des Moines Hospital

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church for Mrs. A. B. Schalkle. Rev. W. P. Fink of Winterset preached the funeral sermon and music was furnished by a ladies quartette composed of Mrs. Ralph Hunter, Mrs. Harry Foster, Mrs. Stanley wood, and Mrs. Peter Book.

Before her marriage to August B. Schalkle at Diamond, Illinois on November 23, 1892, she was Janet Hunter, daughter of David and Euphemia Hunter. She was born at Braidwood, Illinois on March 6, 1874 and spent her girlhood in that locality. Four children-Violet, Earl, Nellie and Irene were born to Mr. and Mrs. Schalkle and came with them to Iowa in 1908; since that time the parents have lived in Earlham and vicinity. Irene passed away on June 17, 1922.

In 1915 Mrs. Schalkle united with the Presbyterian church of Earlham and her interest in it and its branches never diminished. She was especially interested in the Social Circle and even when her failing health did not permit her attendance, she planned and worked for it at home. She gave generous support to all the better things of the community and no unkind words of criticism ever came from this kind, helpful woman. She was a member of Royal Neighbor's Lodge of Coal City, Illinois.

Mrs. Schalkle's greatest interest centered in her home and family. Her devotion to her husband and children made her every task a joy and sacrifice a pleasure. Quiet and unassuming yet capable and considerate, her friendship was much esteemed.

After weeks of sickness and patient suffering Mrs. Schalkle passed away at Des Moines, Iowa on September 13, 1937 at the age of 63 years, six months and seven days. A life full of service and Christian example. Left to mourn her loss are her husband, her daughters-Mrs. John Hoadley of Earlham and Mrs. Clarence Fritz of Pasadena, California, her son Earl Schalkle and beloved granddaughter, Margaret Sue Schalkle of Earlham and four sisters-Mrs. Wm. Stewart, Mrs. Wm. Wilson and Mrs. John Miller of Gillispie, Illinois and Mrs.Adam Robertson of Niles, Michigan; two brothers also survive, James and David Hunter of Gillispie, Illinois. One sister preceded her in death. Her sorrowing family and friends will always miss her.
