Heart Ailment Proves Fatal to Madison County Farmer
James W. Ladd, long-time Madison county farmer, and a well-known resident living near Earlham, died at his farm home last Friday. Death came suddenly, of a heart ailment although he had been in failing health for some time. He was 76 years of age.
Mr. Ladd was born in Page county on January 21, 1861. He was married on November 24, 1884 to Frances J. Schultz. She died on May 20, 1921. Mr. Ladd had long been known as a substantial citizen of this community.
He is survived by two brothers, H. B. Ladd of Denison and J. J. Ladd of Linden, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Monk of Winterset and Mrs. Rose Star, also of Winterset. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset in charge of the Rev. M. R. Talley of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Jefferson cemetery.
