MRS. MAGGIE HORTON OF ST. CHARLES DIES

Was Widow of Well-Known Merchant in That Community

Mrs. Maggie Horton, a resident of St. Charles since pioneer days, died at her home there at the age of 82 years.

Mrs. Horton was the widow of O. M. Horton, for many years a merchant in St. Charles, and a former postmaster there.

The deceased had come to Iowa as a child in pioneer days, the trip being made by covered wagon. Most of her long life was spent in the St. Charles community.

Her nearest surviving relative is a daughter, Mrs. C. A. Johnson of St. Charles.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Methodist church in St. Charles, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. E. L. Patterson. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Armstrong Horton, 82, an old and highly respected citizen of St. Charles, passed away at her home early Monday morning. She had been in failing health for the last three years but the end came suddenly and unexpectedly.

She had been a resident of St. Charles for more than fifty years, and was noted for her many kind acts to the sick and afflicted, never turning a deaf ear to those who needed help in any way.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Anna Johnson, who, with her husband and daughter Phyllis came into the home several years ago and tenderly cared for her in her in her declining years. Other survivors are several nieces and nephews and four step grandchildren,

Her husband, O. M. Horton died in 1915.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Patterson and assisted by Rev. Carnahan of the United Presbyterian church and burial was in the St. Charles cemetery.

Relatives and friends from a distance attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Horton, Mr. and Mrs. George Darr, Mrs. J. G. Smith, and Mrs. Mary Payne, and Mrs. -- W. Miller, of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. -- -- Sayre, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Johnson, and Melvin Davis, of Winterset, Mrs. U. B. Hendrick, Mrs. L. J. Abell, Mrs. J. W. Campbell, Mrs. Wayne Thompson, of Wick, and Mrs. M. G. Patrick, and Mr. and Mrs. Rev. Sayles, of New Virginia.
