HENRIETTA WISHMIER

Henrietta Bernau Wishmier was born in Clayton county, Iowa, April 17, 1861. In early infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran church in Cares, Iowa, and at the age of 18 was confirmed in the same church. In 1873, she came with her parents to Madison county. Here, on September 28, 1879 she was united in marriage to Charles Wishmier. To this union eight children were born, four sons, and four daughters. Of the children one son died in infancy and one daughter Mrs. Kathryn Jungman in 1915.

On the 16th day of February 1907 Mr. Wishmier passed away. Mrs. Wishmier then lived with her children until they were all married. She continued to made her home on the farm five miles south of Van Meter, where she had lived since her marriage. Here she passed away on the 17th of January, 1937, at the age of 75 years and nine months. Pneumonia being the immediate cause of her death. She leaves to mourn her departure, six children, Otto, William, Henry, Mrs. Leona Marquardt, Mrs. Eva Ziemann all of Jefferson township and Mrs. Mollie Clausen of Dexter. There are 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Wishmier was a faithful wife and a good mother, bringing up her children in a Christian manner. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran church all of her life.

She was one of the charter members of the Trinity congregatiion.

This obituary was compiled from her own notes. In these she quotes several Bible passages and hymns which show the faith that was hers.

After a funeral service at the Jefferson township Lutheran church conducted by the Rev. C. Lillie, the remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery.

PIONEER WOMAN OF JEFFERSON IS DEAD

Mrs. Henrietta Wishmier Succumbs to Attack of Pneumonia

Mrs. Henrietta Wishmier, prominent elderly resident of Jefferson township, died at her home Sunday evening. She had been ill about a week with pneumonia. She was 75 years of age.

Mrs. Wishmier was a native of Clayton county, coming to Madison county as a child in pioneer times. She was married to Charles Wishmier, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wishmier is survived by three sons: Otto, William, and Henry Wishmier, all of Jefferson township; and three daughters: Mrs. Mollie Clausen of Dexter, and Mrs. Leona Marquardt and Mrs. Etta Zieman of Jefferson township. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Lutheran church at Van Meter in charge of the pastor, the Rev. C. Lilie. Burial was made in the cemetery there.
