Martin C. Mease, son of Lewis and Mary Ann Mease was born near Peru, Iowa, December 31, 1858 and passed away at his home near Truro, Iowa, October 10, 1937 at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 9 days.
On October 22, 1884, he was united in marriage to Anna Roberta Clifton and to this union was born five sons, Oren Clifton and John Franklin, preceded him in death. The surviving are Lewis E., Jay L., and Sylvester Galen, all of Truro, Iowa.
At an early age he was converted and united with the M. E. church at Ebenezer. After moving to the farm which has been his home for more than fifty years, he united with the Friends church at Oak Run. After the disbandment of the Friends church he and his wife united with the M. E. church which has been him home till death.
During the month of November 1932, he was stricken with paralysis that left him entirely helpless. For nearly four years he has been a patient sufferer, never complaining. Up until April 7, 1937, he was tenderly cared for by his loving wife, who at that time was called to the great beyond.
He was sincere and just in his home, in business and among his many friends. He was unexcelled in help and loving care during his years of usefulness and in patience during his years of helplessness. He leaves three sons, three daughter-in-law, who were as dear to him as his own children, also nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Simmons of Winterset, Iowa and a host of neighbors and friends.
