HENRY PALMER, 93, DIED LAST WEEK

Retired Farmer Had Lived in Fairview Neighborhood for 47 Years

DeSoto-(Special)-Dec. 13. Henry Palmer, one of Madison county's oldest residents, died at his home in the Fairview neighborhood on December 7. He was 93 years of age and had been in failing health in recent years.

Henry Palmer was born near McConnelsville, Ohio on July 28, 1844, the son of David and Margaret Palmer. On December 29, 1869, in Morgan county, Ohio, he was married to Eve Harris. They were the parents of 11 children, two of whom died in infancy.

Shortly after their marriage, Henry Palmer and his wife moved to Illinois, where they lived for 21 years. They then moved to Iowa, settling in Madison county. Mr. Palmer was a resident of the Fairview community for 47 years.

As a small boy in Ohio he had united with the church. After moving to Madison county he transferred his membership to the Fairview Methodist church, remaining a member there for the remainder of his life.

In addition to the two children dying in infancy, he was preceded in death by his wife and two other children, Arch and Lillie Palmer.

He is survived by four sons, Ellsworth Palmer of near Redfield, Samuel Palmer of Des Moines and Carey and Lee Palmer of Fairview; three daughters, Eva Paullin of Des Moines, Malissa Finney of Patterson and Maggie Finney of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Parker of Carlock, Ill., and Mrs. Malissa Ory of Earlham and 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted last Thursday from the Fairview church in charge of the Rev. Charles Fix and burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.
