BENJAMIN FRANKLIN JONES

Benjamin Franklin Jones was born in Menard county, Illinois, December 22, 1859 and passed away January 9, 1937 at his home in Winterset, Iowa, aged 77 years and 18 days.

In the fall of 1864, he with his parents, one brother, three half brothers and four half sisters, came from Illinois in a covered wagon, and on October 11th they settled on a farm in Scott township. He had always resided in Scott township excepting two years spent in Lincoln township, until moving to Winterset in the spring of 1925.

On March 4, 1886, he was married to Stella Harrell. To this union were born three sons, Arthur, Fred and Melvin, all living in Scott township.

He was reared in a family of ten children, eight half brothers and sisters and one brother, "the late Andrew J. Jones" who have all preceded him in death.

He was always a cheerful giver to any good cause, one great ambition and desire was to get homes for his children. His keen sense, good judgment and business ability enabled him to provide comfortable homes for his family.

Ben, as he was commonly called, was a great lover of family, his friends and his country.

He was highly esteemed by all who knew him. His life in the community was so outstanding that it will ever remain as a memorial to him. He leaves a loving wife, three sons, and their wives, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one great grandchild passing away a year ago last March, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
