J. M. WITT, AGED 84, DIED HERE, FRIDAY

Elderly Resident Had Been in Failing Health for Past Year

J. M. Witt, a resident of this community for most of his life, died at his home in Winterset last Friday at the age of 84 years. He had been in failing health for the past year. (d. April 23, 1937)

Mr. Witt was born December 11, 1852 in Indiana, coming to Madison county as a child. He was married in 1889 in Pocahontas county. Most of his life was spent at the trade of carpenter in this community.

Nearest surviving relatives are his widow; a niece, Mrs. Fred Gilleland of Glendale, California; and a nephew, Ralph Witt, also of Glendale.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the residence in Winterset in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

AGED RESIDENT DIES – SERVICES ARE SUNDAY

J. M. Witt, 84, for many years a carpenter, died Friday at his home after a prolonged illness. He had been in failing health last year. Born in Indiana December 11, 1852, he was brought here when a child and made his home here most of his life.

Services were held at the home Sunday conducted by the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

He leaves his widow who has been an invalid some time, this stepdaughter, Mrs. J. M. E. Creger, and grandsons, F. W. Creger and Gaile Creger of Sioux City.
